Mechanically-robust electrospun nanocomposite fiber membranes for oil and water separation

Activated carbon nanofiber nanoparticles incorporated electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds to promote fibroblast behaviors for application to skin tissue engineering

Summary: Carbon nanotubes are commonly used one-dimensional carbonaceous nanomaterials in tissue engineering, while other forms of one-dimensional nanomaterials, such as carbon nanowires and carbon nanofibers, have not been extensively explored for biomedical applications. In this study, activated carbon nanofiber nanoparticles (ACNF NPs) were synthesized from polyacrylonitrile electrospun nanofibers. Two different types of ACNF NPs-containing electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber mats were prepared and evaluated for their potential as skin tissue engineering scaffolds. The results showed that ACNF NPs exhibited a graphitization degree with an I-D/I-G ratio of 1.05, and had a diameter of 280 +/- 100 nm and a length of 565-3322 nm. NPs with a concentration above 30 μg/mL exhibited toxicity to NIH3T3 fibroblasts. The ACNF-PCL nanofiber mats demonstrated better cell proliferation compared to PCL and ACNF@PCL mats. Therefore, it can be concluded that ACNF-PCL mats with a lower concentration of ACNF NPs have greater potential to support cellular growth and impact skin tissue regeneration.

Nanofibrillated cellulose-based superhydrophobic coating with antimicrobial performance

Summary: A nanofibrillated cellulose-based multifunctional superhydrophobic coating (NMSC) was developed through an efficient silylation process. The NMSC exhibited nanoroughness, low surface energy, thermal stability, and unprecedented hydrophobic and self-cleaning performance. It also showed effective long-term barriers to various fluids and a certain degree of antibacterial performance. This work provides a good approach for the high-value application of cellulose and the development of ecological and sustainable multifunctional coatings.

Constructing Scalable Superhydrophobic Membranes for Ultrafast Water-Oil Separation

Study on Favorable Comprehensive Properties of Superhydrophobic Coating Fabricated by Polytetrafluoroethylene Doped with Graphene

An investigation of factors affecting the electrospinning of poly (vinyl alcohol)/kefiran composite nanofibers

The optimal condition for nanofiber fabrication was found to be 18 kV, 200 mm, and 1 mL/h, producing uniform nanofibers without knots or adhesion. Concentration was identified as the most effective parameter influencing the diameter of nanofibers, and phase separation did not occur between the two polymers according to TEM images.
