Preparation of ethanediamine-doped carbon quantum dots and their applications in white LEDs and fluorescent TLC plate

Summary: In this study, a bottom-up approach was utilized to produce nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) through hydrothermal treatment of microcrystalline cellulose with different nitrogen sources. Among these sources, Ethylenediamine (EDA) was found to yield N-CQDs with the highest fluorescence intensity and quantum yields. The fabricated N-CQDs are uniform spherical particles with excitation-dependent and long-wave emission properties, suitable for white LED light emission and fluorescent thin layer chromatography plate preparation.

Selective electro-oxidation of dopamine on Co or Fe supported onto N-doped ketjenblack

Summary: In this study, Co and Fe catalysts supported onto N-doped ketjenblack (Co/KB-N and Fe/KB-N) were synthesized using a template-free method and examined for dopamine electrooxidation reaction. Co/KB-N exhibited higher performance in terms of activity, sensitivity, stability and selectivity in a pH value close to human's serum. The improved performance could be attributed to the formation of the Co3+/Co4+ redox pair and the presence of N, which promoted electron transfer rate and high selectivity of Co/KB-N.

It offered four-electron pathways and demonstrated long-term stability, showcasing potential as an alternative to platinum-group metals for ORR. This work lays the groundwork for designing the next generation of renewable energy systems' electrocatalysts with intriguing features such as pH-universal catalytic activity, satisfactory durability, relatively low cost, and scalable production methods.
