Nitrogen-doped lignin-derived carbon for catalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium via HCOOH-mediated hydrogenation

Summary: This article explores the use of a metal-free catalyst nitrogen-doped carbon (N@C-g-C3N4) for the reduction of toxic Cr6+ to benign Cr3+ using lignin as a carbon source and g-C3N4 nanosheets as a nitrogen source. The N@C-g-C3N4 catalyst exhibits high surface area, mesopore size, and defects, contributing to its excellent catalytic activity in the reduction of Cr6+ with high rate constant and turnover frequency. The catalyst shows superior stability and renewability and can also be applied in other hydrogenation reactions and the removal of organic dyes.

Copper and nickel decorated g-C3N4 as superior catalysts for reduction of toxic pollutants: A combined experimental and theoretical approach

Summary: This study developed a highly effective catalyst for rapid degradation of hazardous waste-water pollutants by modifying the surface properties of the catalyst with metal atoms. Through extensive experiments and theoretical analysis, the best catalyst and optimal degradation conditions for each pollutant were determined. The role of metal atom incorporation and the electron-relay process involving NaBH4 and aqueous electrolyte were investigated. The experimental results confirmed the superior performance of the catalyst in terms of degradation time and catalytic parameters.

Removal of direct dyes by coagulation: Adaptability and mechanism related to the molecular structure

Summary: The textile industry generates a large amount of colored wastewater containing various synthetic dyes. Conventional biological treatment methods are not effective in achieving good decolorization due to the complex structures of these dyes. Coagulation has been identified as an economical and effective treatment method. This study investigated the adaptability and mechanisms of coagulation in removing direct dyes through a series of experiments using different coagulants. The results revealed that ferric chloride, aluminum chloride, and magnesium chloride exhibited superior coagulation efficiency on direct dyes, with dyes containing more amino functional groups being more easily removed.

Photocatalytic decontamination of toxic hexavalent chromium in water over graphitic carbon nitride supported sulfur nanoparticles

Summary: This study presents a facile strategy for the preparation of graphitic carbon nitride composited with sulfur nanoparticles, which showed remarkable photocatalytic decontamination of toxic hexavalent chromium. The presence of sulfur nanoparticles significantly expanded the absorption intensity of gCN into the visible region and improved the photocatalytic reduction efficiency. Additionally, the electrochemical characterizations indicated that the sulfur-modified samples enhanced the formation of Cr(III) and prevented electron recombination, thus highlighting the importance of sulfur utilization as a promoter for photocatalytic applications.

Modeling and Box-Behnken design optimization of photocatalytic parameters for efficient removal of dye by lanthanum-doped mesoporous TiO2

The optimized conditions were determined to be 310 nm light wavelength, 80 mg catalyst weight, and 20 ppm MO concentration, achieving a mineralization rate of 99.89%.
