Mechanistic revealing of reproductive behavior impairment in male guppy (Poecilia reticulata) induced by environmentally realistic 2,2′-dithiobis-pyridine exposure

Xuefu Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals that (PS)2 can disrupt the reproductive behavior of male guppies by suppressing their sexual interest in females, reducing competitive behavior frequencies, and decreasing mating time and frequency. Exposure to (PS)2 does not affect male guppies' secondary sexual characteristics or induce estrogenic activity. Transcriptome sequencing identified activation of ECM-receptor interaction and focal adhesion pathways as potential underlying molecular mechanisms in the impairment of reproductive behavior induced by (PS)2.

Low concentrations of the antidepressant venlafaxine affect courtship behaviour and alter serotonin and dopamine systems in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Yaqiu Tang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that venlafaxine can disrupt brain monoamine levels, affecting courtship behavior in adult zebrafish, and also has an impact on their motor activity.

Long-term exposure to cyprodinil causes abnormal zebrafish aggressive and antipredator behavior through the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal axis

Chen Tang et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure to cyprodinil significantly enhanced the aggressive behavior of zebrafish, while reducing their antipredator behavior. Additionally, cyprodinil exposure altered the levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol in zebrafish, impacting hormonal regulation and gene expression. These changes in behavior and hormone levels were potentially responsible for the observed effects on fish behavior during different tests.

Gnrh2 maintains reproduction in fasting zebrafish through dynamic neuronal projection changes and regulation of gonadotropin synthesis, oogenesis, and reproductive behaviors

Miranda Marvel et al.

Summary: Restricted food intake during reproductive periods is common across the animal kingdom. In fasted states, Gnrh2 plays a crucial role in inducing reproduction, particularly in zebrafish, whereas Gnrh2 neurons do not compensate for the depletion of Gnrh3 in other circumstances.
