Life in the surf-zone: Variations of faunal assemblage structure in temperate sandy beaches of the Southwestern Atlantic coast

Sandra M. Fiori et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in biological descriptors along a temperate coastal fringe, finding that beach types and seasons have significant impacts on the richness, diversity, and abundance of faunal surf-zone assemblage. The assemblage showed seasonal variability, likely influenced by environmental factors.

Study on detoxification and removal mechanisms of hexavalent chromium by microorganisms

Xue Tang et al.

Summary: This study summarized chromium toxicity, factors affecting microbial remediation, and methods for enhancing bioremediation. However, the actual application of bioremediation technology is still facing a major challenge. The study also proposed future research directions, providing theoretical guidance and scientific basis for the application of bioremediation technology.

Insights into diatom microalgal farming for treatment of wastewater and pretreatment of algal cells by ultrasonication for value creation

Mohd Jahir Khan et al.

Summary: Wastewater can be effectively treated by growing microalgae in it, which not only reduces costs but also increases the production of value-added products. Ultrasonication pre-treatment of microalgal biomass allows for easier extraction of secondary metabolites at lower cost, especially with diatoms, which contain various valuable products.

Nano-remediation of toxic heavy metal contamination: Hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)]

Nazeer Abdul Azeez et al.

Summary: This article discusses the pollution of the environment with toxic heavy metals due to industrialization and modern agricultural practices, with a focus on hexavalent chromium. Various methods, including nano and bioremediation, have been employed to reduce heavy metal concentrations, improving efficiency and lowering costs.

Modulation of photosynthesis in Synechocystis and Synechococcus grown with chromium (VI)

Alka Gupta et al.

Summary: Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 and Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 exhibit different tolerance to Cr(VI) and show differential responses in photosynthesis under Cr(VI) exposure. Despite being exposed to a lower concentration of Cr(VI), Synechocystis had more severely impaired photosynthetic functions compared to Synechococcus.

Soil metal pollution assessment in Sarcocornia salt marshes in a South American estuary

Vanesa L. Negrin et al.

Summary: The study evaluated soil metal pollution in two Sarcocornia salt marshes within the Bahia Blanca estuary in Argentina through pseudo-total and bioavailable metal levels and pollution indexes. The distribution patterns of bioavailable metals varied between salt marshes, with organic matter playing a key role in metal distribution. Using local background values provided a better assessment of anthropogenic metal enrichment and moderate pollution levels in salt marsh soils compared to using average background levels.
