Soil Olsen P response to different phosphorus fertilization strategies in long-term experiments in NW Italy

Michela Battisti et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of soil phosphorus balance on fluctuations in the available phosphorus pool for crops, proposing an exponential model to describe this relationship and providing an agronomic interpretation. Soil characteristics were found to affect minimum soil Olsen P values and response rates to phosphorus additions, while fertilizer type had a multiplier effect on cumulative P balance.

Soil clay is a key factor affecting soil phosphorus availability in the distribution area of Masson pine plantations across subtropical China

Zunji Jian et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of environmental factors on soil phosphorus availability in Masson pine plantations in subtropical China. The results showed that soil texture, especially clay, had a significant impact on soil phosphorus availability, while other factors such as climate, nitrogen deposition, and litter had minimal effects. The study also suggested that extending the rotation period of plantations can benefit soil phosphorus recovery.

Background levels of DTPA-extractable trace elements in calcareous soils and prediction of trace element availability based on common soil properties

Mohsen Jalali et al.

Summary: Background levels of trace elements in soils are crucial for assessing the effects of human activity. This study determined the background levels of nine trace elements in soil samples from a region in Western Iran with low human activity. The study also found that common soil properties significantly influenced the availability of trace elements.

Summary: Iranian agricultural soils are contaminated with various trace elements, with most areas classified as having moderate to high pollution levels. This is mainly attributed to excessive use of conventional and organic fertilizers, pesticides, and animal manure.

Global patterns and drivers of soil total phosphorus concentration

Xianjin He et al.

Summary: Soil total phosphorus concentration varies significantly among different parent material types, soil orders, biomes, and continents, with a wide global range from 1.4 to 9630.0 mg kg(-1). The most important predictors of soil total P concentration are soil organic carbon concentration, parent material type, mean annual temperature, and soil sand content. Predicted soil total P concentrations increase with latitude, but vary widely among regions with similar latitudes due to regional differences in parent material, topography, and climate conditions.

Phosphorus extraction by selected methods in alkaline and calcareous soils after mono-ammonium phosphate application at different rates

A. E. Venter et al.

Summary: The study found that the Mehlich 3 method extracted the most phosphorus in alkaline and calcareous irrigated soils of South Africa, while the Bray 1 or Olsen methods extracted the least. Olsen method was identified as the most reliable method for determining the amount of phosphorus required to raise the P status of the soils.
