Dynamic cerebrovascular autoregulation in patients prone to postural syncope: Comparison of techniques assessing the autoregulation index from spontaneous variability series

Francesca Gelpi et al.

Summary: Three approaches to assess cerebrovascular autoregulation were applied, using the autoregulation index computed from the variability of mean arterial pressure and mean cerebral blood flow velocity. Different methods provided different results, but none indicated significant differences in the dynamic component of cerebrovascular autoregulation between individuals with and without a history of postural syncope.

Monitoring the Evolution of Asynchrony between Mean Arterial Pressure and Mean Cerebral Blood Flow via Cross-Entropy Methods

Alberto Porta et al.

Summary: This study explored the use of two nonlinear tools in the information domain to assess the asynchrony between mean arterial pressure (MAP) and mean cerebral blood flow (MCBF). The results showed that the degree of asynchrony increased at rest and decreased after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). This has important implications for the noninvasive evaluation of cerebrovascular control.

Categorizing the Role of Respiration in Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Variability Interactions

Alberto Porta et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of respiration on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular controls. The researchers propose a method to test whether respiration acts as a confounder or a suppressor, and validate its effectiveness in the study. The results show that respiration acts as a confounder in the regulation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular controls. The significance of this study lies in the better understanding of the role of respiration in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular regulations through this testing method.

Sympathovagal imbalance in early ischemic stroke is linked to impaired cerebral autoregulation and increased infarct volumes

Pedro Castro et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV) and baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) in dynamic cerebral autoregulation in the early hours post ischemia, and its impact on clinical and radiological outcome. The results showed that increased vagal modulation was associated with higher gain values of cerebral autoregulation and larger infarct volumes.
