Long-term carbon emission reduction potential of building retrofits with dynamically changing electricity emission factors

Yingli Lou et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel method to accurately predict emission reduction potential of building retrofits by using dynamically changing electricity emission factors. The research focuses on medium office buildings in five locations in the U.S. and reveals new phenomena on the emission reduction potential, providing guidance for future building retrofits.

The economic impacts of carbon emission trading scheme on building retrofits: A case study with US medium office buildings

Yingli Lou et al.

Summary: This study proposes an economic evaluation method to investigate the economic impacts of the carbon emission trading scheme (ETS) on building retrofits. The results show that carbon prices have significant effects on building retrofits, with specific locations being more sensitive to carbon prices.

Spatio-temporal dynamic evolution of carbon emission intensity and the effectiveness of carbon emission reduction at county level based on nighttime light data

Qingfang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatio-temporal characteristics of carbon emission intensity (CEI) in Qinghai Province, China, and finds that most counties show a decreasing trend in CEI. The study also reveals club convergence and spatial correlation in county-level CEI changes, suggesting the need for differentiated responsibility in promoting carbon emission reduction. The study provides recommendations for the sustainable development of Qinghai Province.

Development of a framework of carbon accounting and management on the township level in China

Yahong Dong et al.

Summary: This study proposes a framework for carbon management at the township level and validates it through a case study on Lingshan Island. The results show that the island's carbon emissions are mainly contributed by energy and electricity consumption. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the carbon emissions in 2020 were 224 t CO(2)e lower than in 2019. The study provides recommendations for carbon management at the township level and paves a new way for carbon accounting and management in less urbanized regions.

The effect of building retrofit measures on CO2 emission reduction - A case study with US medium office buildings

Yingli Lou et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of building retrofit measures on CO2 emissions reduction in different locations, finding that the effects of improving lighting and equipment efficiency on emission reduction are significantly influenced by climate, and the most energy-efficient measure may not necessarily be the most effective emission reduction measure.

Evaluating the energy impact potential of energy efficiency measures for retrofit applications: A case study with US medium office buildings

Yunyang Ye et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the energy impact of various energy efficiency measures in energy retrofit projects using sensitivity analysis, grouping them into packages to achieve deep energy savings for a medium office building prototype across 15 climate zones in the United States. High-performance windows, reduced interior lighting power, and reduced interior plug and process loads are found to have higher energy impacts in most climate zones. However, the energy impacts of these measures vary by climate zone and energy performance indicator.

Carbon Emission Governance Zones at the County Level to Promote Sustainable Development

He Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper discusses 5 carbon emission governance zones for 1753 counties, including 1 high-carbon governance zone, 2 medium-carbon governance zones, and 2 low-carbon zones. The key governance areas are mainly located in the northern plain areas and southeast coastal areas, contributing to 51.88% of total carbon emissions. The differentiated zoning method proposed in this paper can be applied to other governance issues of small-scale regions.

Low carbon transition at the township level: feasibility study of environmental pollutants and sustainable energy planning

Ali Cheshmehzangi

Summary: This study fills a major research gap by exploring low carbon planning at the township level through case study research in China. The study involves analysis of CO2 emissions, pollution dispersion, and development of a low carbon indicator system at the township level, contributing to the development of low-carbon town planning with consideration of environmental pollutants and sustainable energy planning at the township level.
