Thermal recovery of coalbed methane: Modeling of heat and mass transfer in wellbores

Bin Nie et al.

Summary: Coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs with low porosity, low permeability, strong heterogeneity and high content of adsorbed gas have received extensive attention for their heat injection development. This study focuses on the superheated steam (SS) flow in the wellbore after fracturing the CBM reservoir, establishes a mathematical model, and analyzes the influence of injection parameters on SS flow. The research conclusions provide reference significance for the development of CBM reservoirs with SS injection.

Coal Permeability Variation during the Heating Process considering Thermal Expansion and Desorption Shrinkage

Xiaoyu Su et al.

Summary: This study explores the influence of temperature and desorption on coal deformation and permeability. The results show that increasing temperature leads to thermal expansion deformation, reducing permeability; higher coal porosity increases the impact of thermal expansion deformation; desorption causes matrix shrinkage, increasing permeability; and the change in permeability during temperature increase is influenced by both thermal expansion deformation and desorption deformation.

Temperature-pressure coupling effect on gas desorption characteristics in coal during low-variable temperature process

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the gas desorption process in coal under temperature-pressure coupling conditions in a low-variable temperature environment using a self-developed high-low temperature alternating adsorption-desorption experimental device. The experimental results show that temperature has promotion and inhibition effects on gas adsorption and desorption in coal and a 'pseudo-desorption' phenomenon exists. A comprehensive analysis of the temperature-pressure coupling effect on gas desorption is conducted.

Effective stress effect and slippage effect of gas migration in deep coal reservoirs

Chao Liu et al.

Summary: The research findings show that in deep coal reservoirs, as bulk stress increases, gas flow transitions from effective stress control to slippage effect control, weakening the stress sensitivity of permeability and playing a significant role in gas migration.

Influence of effective stress on gas slippage effect of different rank coals

Ya Meng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the gas slippage effect on gas seepage in coal, revealing the influence of effective stresses on different rank coals and their gas slippage effect control mechanism. Experiment results show that with decreasing pore pressure, gas permeability and slippage effect in coal increase, controlled by effective stress. A novel evaluation method is proposed to quantitatively assess the impact of gas slippage effect on coal permeability.
