Benefit Analysis of Grid-Connected Floating Photovoltaic System on the Hydropower Reservoir

Nghia-Hieu Nguyen et al.

Summary: In the roadmap for transitioning from fossil fuel-based power sources to renewable energy, solar farms and rooftop solar power, followed by floating PV power, are the most suitable options in terms of land space, PV system efficiency, and environmental goals. The government's incentives and financial support for floating PV plants on water surfaces also contribute to their attractiveness to investors. This study focuses on analyzing the economic-technical aspects of a 47.5 MW floating PV plant connected to the national utility grid in Binh Thuan province, Vietnam.

Performance Evaluation of a MW-Size Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic Plant Considering the Impact of Tilt Angle

Gori Shankar Sharma et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study using the PVsyst software to estimate the generation of a large-scale, grid-interfaced solar PV plant. The study investigates the impact of tilt angle on the plant's performance. Results show that considering two seasonal tilt angles increases the incident radiation on PV modules by 2.41% and the annual capacity utilization factor (CUF) by 0.26%. Additionally, the proposed method outperforms statistical methods reported in the literature.

The cooling effect of floating PV in two different climate zones: A comparison of field test data from the Netherlands and Singapore

Maarten Dorenkamper et al.

Summary: The deployment of more photovoltaic (PV) systems on water bodies has enormous potential for energy transition, with floating PV (FPV) systems able to outperform conventional PV systems due to the cooling effect from the water. Field tests in the Netherlands and Singapore show that the best performing FPV systems had lower weighted temperatures of 3.2 degrees C and 14.5 degrees C, respectively, compared to their benchmarks. The energy yield gain from the cooling effect of FPV systems compared to reference PV systems is up to 3% in the Netherlands and up to 6% in Singapore.

Performance analysis of a floating photovoltaic covering system in an Indian reservoir

Nagananthini Ravichandran et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance and cost of a model floating photovoltaic (FPV) plant in an Indian reservoir, exploring different tilt angles, mounting systems, and tracking mechanisms for power generation optimization. The analysis identified a landscape flat-mount system with high performance ratio, while recommending fixed-tilt and single-axis tracking FPV systems for the specific reservoir. Additionally, the study presented cost analysis and carbon-footprint estimation to showcase the economic and environmental benefits of the system, highlighting the higher CO2 savings potential with a tracking FPV system compared to a fixed-mount FPV system.
