Optimal scheduling of an active distribution system considering distributed energy resources, demand response aggregators and electrical energy storage

Hamid Zakernezhad et al.

Summary: This paper presents a two-level optimization model for the optimal scheduling of an active distribution system in day-ahead and real-time market horizons. The proposed framework considers the arbitrage strategy of different stakeholders and uses robust and lexicographic ordering optimization methods.

Trading strategy and benefit optimization of load aggregators in integrated energy systems considering integrated demand response: A hierarchical Stackelberg game

Songrui Li et al.

Summary: With the rise of integrated energy systems, the role of load aggregator in connecting the demand and supply sides has become increasingly important. A bilateral integrated demand response model is established considering consumer psychology, using a hierarchical Stackelberg game. The proposed trading strategy increases the benefits of the integrated energy production base, load aggregator, and users, while reducing penalty costs. The hierarchical game model ensures sustainability and provides innovative ideas for the development of integrated energy systems.

Selling Demand Response Using Options

Deepan Muthirayan et al.

Summary: This paper examines the feasibility of trading demand response assets in wholesale electricity markets using two different methods: an intermediate spot market with contingent pricing, and over-the-counter options contracts. The study finds that options contracts can approximate the ideal spot market for demand response with modest efficiency loss.

Coordinating Demand Response Aggregation With LV Network Operational Constraints

Valentin Rigoni et al.

Summary: The increasing use of renewable energy resources is driving the growing importance of demand response mechanisms to improve the resilience and efficiency of power system operation, with residential demand response expected to become a key asset. To effectively utilize this resource, demand response aggregators must leverage the capabilities of a large group of households and participate in the electricity market, while also considering the operational constraints of the local network to avoid compromising the quality of electricity service and overestimating the true demand response potential.

A Reinforcement Learning-Based Decision System for Electricity Pricing Plan Selection by Smart Grid End Users

Tianguang Lu et al.

Summary: This article proposes a reinforcement learning-based decision system to help end users optimize their consumption cost portfolios by choosing various pricing plans from different retail electricity companies. The algorithm improves computational and prediction performance by using an improved state framework and a batch Q-learning algorithm integrated with a Kernel approximator. Results show that the proposed decision model effectively reduces cost and energy consumption dissatisfaction for individual users.

Tracking Equilibrium Point Under Real-Time Price-Based Residential Demand Response

Tao Ding et al.

Summary: This letter proposes a model for tracking the equilibrium point of the real-time locational marginal price based residential demand response program, where demand elasticity is modeled as a monotonically decreasing linear function of the LMP. The dual model, formulated as a convex quadratic problem using duality, is shown to be tractable to solve and find the global optimum. Numerical results on the IEEE 30-bus system verify the effectiveness of the demand response model.

Mechanism Design for Fair and Efficient DSO Flexibility Markets

Georgios Tsaousoglou et al.

Summary: This article proposes a flexibility market for DSO to acquire flexibility services from asset aggregators to maintain network voltages and currents within safe limits. A max-min fair formulation is suggested for flexibility allocation, and a mechanism design is provided to ensure truthful bidding in the market. The mechanism enables DSO to achieve incentive compatibility and optimality for the max-min fairness objective.

Strategies for Network-Safe Load Control With a Third-Party Aggregator and a Distribution Operator

Stephanie Ross et al.

Summary: When providing bulk power system services, a third-party aggregator could inadvertently cause operational issues at the distribution level. The study proposes a coordination architecture where an aggregator and distribution operator coordinate to avoid distribution network constraint violations while maintaining private information. Two control strategies are proposed, with the second outperforming the first in terms of tracking accuracy and network safety, although it requires more resources for implementation.
