Investigation of Thermopressor with Incomplete Evaporation for Gas Turbine Intercooling Systems

Zidong Yu et al.

Summary: Cyclic air intercooling is a promising method to increase fuel and gas turbine energy efficiency. By using surface heat exchangers and water injection, the contact method can cool the air between high-pressure and low-pressure compressors. The research proposes the use of a thermopressor, which implements a thermo-gas-dynamic compression process by evaporating the injected liquid in the flowing air at near-sonic speed. This method effectively reduces the air temperature and decreases the work on compression.

Energy Saving in Trigeneration Plant for Food Industries

Andrii Radchenko et al.

Summary: Trigeneration plants mainly rely on gas reciprocating engines for combined cooling, heating, and electricity supply. The fuel efficiency of these engines is influenced by the air intake temperatures. By using absorption lithium-bromide chillers, the waste heat from the engines can be transformed into refrigeration. However, in food technologies, the use of chilled water at a higher temperature allows for potential engine intake air cooling that is not fully utilized by absorption chillers. Refrigerant ejector chillers offer a simple and cost-effective solution for this purpose.

Gas Turbine Intake Air Hybrid Cooling Systems and a New Approach to Their Rational Designing

Zongming Yang et al.

Summary: Gas turbine intake air cooling through exhaust gas heat recovery chillers is a common trend to improve fuel efficiency, especially in higher ambient temperatures. The most widely used method is absorption chilling using lithium-bromide, but it has limitations in cooling the inlet air below 15 degrees Celsius. A two-stage hybrid absorption-ejector chiller has been developed to cool the air from 15 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius and lower. This new approach has been proven to provide significantly higher annual fuel savings compared to absorption cooling.
