SrGa2S4:Eu2+ phosphor known for its moisture sensitivity was successfully fabricated into white light-emitting device (WILED) with enhanced moisture and thermal stability by the dicing of phosphor-in-glass (PiG) plate. Sulfide PiG plates were diced into 100 x 100 pm cubes which showed enhanced moisture resistance and thermal stability due to high thermal resistivity of the glass-based PiG encapsulant and design of PiG microcube. Moisture sensitivity test revealed that 95% of emission intensity was retained for sulfide PiG microcubes compared to 88% for powder phosphor even after 48 h. The WLED was fabricated with sulfide PiG microcubes under 450 nm GaN LED chip and showed CIE coordinates of (0.39, 0.39) with high CRI of 85 under operating current of 40 mA for conformal WLED packaging applications.
