A Review of the Single-Step Flame Synthesis of Defective and Heterostructured TiO2 Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic Applications

Sovann Khan et al.

Summary: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is widely used in various applications due to its excellent UV-photocatalytic properties, but its limited photocatalytic activity under visible light is a challenge. Defect/bandgap engineering and heterojunction introduction have been successfully used to enhance the photocatalytic activities of TiO2. The development of efficient large-scale production methods is crucial for the industrial application of high-performance unconventional structured TiO2. Flame synthesis is a promising method for rapid nanoparticle production. This article summarizes the latest reports on the synthesis of defective and heterostructured TiO2 using flame synthesis, discussing reactor configurations, synthesis conditions, precursor preparation, and physicochemical properties.

Comparison of reflectance to solar radiation between mortars treated with TiO2 and painted mortars after three years of exposure

Sergio Roberto Andrade Dantas et al.

Summary: The incident solar radiation on the building envelope is greatly influenced by urban characteristics and building facade materials. This study investigates the changes in solar reflectance of mortar specimens with different treatments of TiO2 powder and suspension compared to white painted specimens, over a period of three years. The results show that the white painted specimens maintained their initial reflectance to solar radiation, while there were noticeable differences in reflectance between specimens with TiO2 powder addition and specimens with TiO2 suspension.
