Solvent-free dehydration, cyclization, and hydrogenation of linalool with a dual heterogeneous catalyst system to generate a high-performance sustainable aviation fuel

C. Luke Keller et al.

Summary: Sustainable aviation fuels have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions and offer superior properties compared to conventional petroleum-based fuels. By converting bio-based monoterpene linalool into a fuel mixture primarily composed of p-menthane and 2,6-dimethyloctane, a higher gravimetric heat of combustion and lower viscosity can be achieved. Developing efficient catalytic methods for synthesizing bio-based jet fuels is critical for addressing climate change while supporting a modern society.

Hydrogenated Turpentine: A Biobased Component for Jet Fuel

David Donoso et al.

Summary: Comparisons were made between turpentine and hydrogenated turpentine as components of jet blends, with findings showing improvements in certain key properties and notably reductions in sooting tendency. Partially hydrogenated turpentine can be blended up to 50% v/v with Jet Al, meeting the limit required by the standard specification for aviation turbine fuels containing synthesized hydrocarbons.

Ultrasound assisted improved synthesis of TiO2 catalyst and subsequent evaluation for isomerization of alpha pinene

Saurabh Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, titanium dioxide catalyst was synthesized using an improved method involving sonication and acid activation, with a comparison of activity with catalyst synthesized using conventional approach. The research found that an appropriate sonication time could significantly reduce the catalyst particle size, leading to higher catalytic performance. Under optimal conditions, the catalyst was able to completely isomerize alpha pinene with good selectivity.

Selective synthesis of camphene from isomerization of α- and β-pinene over heterogeneous catalysts

Julian E. Sanchez-Velandia et al.

Summary: Selective synthesis of fine chemicals from wasted derived biomass is a major challenge for the industry, and in this study, materials based on titanates proved to be effective catalysts for isomerization reactions of biomass derived alpha- and beta-pinene to obtain camphene. The density of acid sites, Bronsted acid sites, and catalyst architecture significantly influenced the catalytic activity, with titanate catalyst showing the highest yield for camphene. Furthermore, titanate-based materials were also capable of isomerizing camphene and limonene into valuable chemicals with good to excellent yields.
