Production and characterization of bio-oil from fluidized bed pyrolysis of olive stones, pinewood, and torrefied feedstock

Anna Trubetskaya et al.

Summary: Advancements in fluidized bed pyrolysis mechanisms and analytical methodologies are critical for progress in the biorefinery sector in general and the aviation fuel sector in particular. The statistical modelling of pyrolysis product yields and composition allowed us to observe advantages of operating temperature and feedstock se-lections over the torrefaction process and catalyst addition in a fluidized bed reactor. This work suggests that bio-oil from fluidized bed pyrolysis of biomasses is a promising material for use in the aviation industry and energy production.

Staged pyrolysis of biomass to probe the evolution of fractions of bio-oil

Chao Li et al.

Summary: Bio-oil is a complex mixture of organics with each group of chemicals showing different responses to pyrolysis temperatures. Staged pyrolysis of poplar sawdust, cellulose, and lignin revealed that 350 degrees C is the critical temperature for the formation of the majority of organics from sawdust and cellulose, while further increase to 550 degrees C mainly promotes aromatization of reaction intermediates from aliphatic components. Staged pyrolysis also enhances charring reactions, resulting in bio-oil with more light organics and the production of carbon-rich and thermally stable biochar.

Enhancing bio-aromatics yield in bio-oil from catalytic fast pyrolysis of bamboo residues over bi-metallic catalyst and reaction mechanism based on quantum computing

Chong Li et al.

Summary: In this study, bi-metallic modified HZSM-5 was used to enhance bio-aromatics yield in bio-oil from catalytic pyrolysis of bamboo residues. The results showed that Fe and Zn co-modified HZSM-5 promoted deoxygenation activity and monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons yield, with Zn modified HZSM-5 catalyst yielding higher aromatics than Fe modified HZSM-5. However, when the catalyst to biomass mass ratio exceeded 2:1, the yield of aromatics decreased.
