Mrityunjay Singh et al.

Summary: This study developed a field-scale hydrothermal model to investigate the heat extraction potential from the Soultz-sous-Forets geothermal reservoir using CO2 and water as working fluids. By considering the reservoir response and wellbore heat exchange, the study provides a better understanding of the heat extraction mechanism. The results show that the wellbore effect is significantly higher than the reservoir response to production temperature, and lowering the injection temperature can enhance heat extraction potential with minimal impact on thermal breakthrough.

Energy and exergy assessment and a competitive study of a two-stage ORC for recovering SFGC waste heat and LNG cold energy

Yashar Aryanfar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates, simulates, and analyzes three functional modes of a newly designed geothermal power plant: single flash geothermal cycle (SFGC), SFGC with two-stage ORC recovery, and SFGC with two-stage ORC recovery and LNG cryogenic energy. By adding a two-stage ORC recovery and LNG refrigeration exergy cycle, the aim is to improve the thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency of the SFGC system and utilize LNG's cold energy. The proposed system is analyzed using the equations of the first law and the second law of thermodynamics. Assuming a two-stage ORC and LNG recovery mode, the energy efficiency of the SFGC increases from 0.2023 to 0.3863 when using R227ea and R116 working fluids, and from 0.4016 to 0.4066 when using R124 and R125 working fluids.
