Exogenous Indole-3-Acetic Acid Induced Ethanol Tolerance in Phylogenetically Diverse Saccharomycetales Yeasts

Ruo-Ting Hsiung et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of IAA on the stress tolerance of 12 different lineages of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The results showed that pretreatment with IAA significantly increased the ethanol tolerance of S. cerevisiae, but had no significant effect on thermo- or osmotolerance. Furthermore, the pretreatment with IAA reduced the lethal effects of ethanol on S. cerevisiae cells.

Paloma Duran et al.

Summary: The study reveals the extensive similarity between the microbiota associated with microscopic algae and the root microbiota of land plants. Both algae and plants attract heterotrophic bacteria by releasing organic compounds and establish symbiotic relationships with them. Furthermore, the assembly process of microbial communities associated with algae and plant roots shares common ecological principles.

Identification and Characterization of Auxin/IAA Biosynthesis Pathway in the Rice Blast Fungus Magnaporthe oryzae

Lihong Dong et al.

Summary: The rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae produces the phytohormone auxin/IAA, which is crucial for its mycelial growth and pathogenic development. This study identified an indole-3-pyruvic acid (IPA)-dependent IAA synthesis pathway in M. oryzae, consisting of the enzymes tryptophan aminotransferase (MoTam1) and indole-3-pyruvate decarboxylase (MoIpd1).

Auxin's origin: do PILS hold the key?

Kenny Arthur Bogaert et al.

Summary: Auxin plays a crucial role in the development of land plants and brown seaweeds, and the PIN and PILS transporter families may have evolved prior to the canonical auxin response pathway. The conservation of PILS-mediated auxin transport and the existence of auxin function in unicellular algae suggest that auxin function predates multicellularity.

A phylogenomically informed five-order system for the closest relatives of land plants

Sebastian Hess et al.

Summary: The evolution of streptophytes has had a significant impact on life on Earth, particularly in the emergence of land plants. Recent research on a filamentous green alga from an Austrian peat bog reveals a previously unknown lineage of zygnematophytes with filamentous growth, shedding light on the evolutionary relationships and origins of this group. The findings provide a solid framework for further comparative analyses and understanding the evolution of cellular traits and body plans in the closest relatives of land plants.

Adenylate cyclase activity of TIR1/AFB auxin receptors in plants

Linlin Qi et al.

Summary: The phytohormone auxin is a crucial signal in plant development, and its transcriptional reprogramming is mediated through a canonical signaling pathway. The TIR1/AFB receptors, in addition to their known function as auxin receptors, also possess adenylate cyclase (AC) activity. Mutations in the AC motif of the TIR1 C-terminal region affect the receptor's function, leading to impaired gravitropism and auxin-induced growth inhibition in plants.
