Electrochemical oxidation of ferricyanide

Mun Hon Cheah et al.

Summary: The electrochemical oxidation of ferricyanide, [Fe-III(CN)(6)](3-), was investigated and the oxidation product was characterized using in-situ FTIR and XAS spectroelectrochemistry methods. The oxidation process is proposed to involve a tentative Fe(IV) intermediate before forming a stable product in acetonitrile. The speciation of the oxidation product was confirmed by DFT calculations, which showed good agreement with experimental data.
