Carbon-Encapsulated Iron Nanoparticles as a Magnetic Modifier of Bioanode and Biocathode in a Biofuel Cell and Biobattery

Roman Chomicz et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the application of magnetic carbon-encapsulated iron nanoparticles in constructing bioelectrodes for a biobattery and a biofuel cell. The nanoparticles proved to be suitable for immobilizing enzymes and mediators, resulting in stable systems with efficient catalytic activity for oxygen reduction and fructose oxidation. The maximum power output and open-circuit voltage of the biobattery and biofuel cell were reported, showing the effectiveness of the enzymes in both systems.
