Embodied Carbon in China's Export Trade: A Multi Region Input-Output Analysis

Weixin Yang et al.

Summary: This paper examines the carbon embodied in China's export trade using multi-region input-output models and international input-output data. It finds that the majority of embodied carbon comes from the secondary industry, with the manufacturing and power sectors playing significant roles. Additionally, the crop and animal production sector has a significant share of embodied carbon in the primary industry, while the transport and storage sector dominates the tertiary industry.

Analysis of Influencing Factors of Embodied Carbon in China's Export Trade in the Background of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality

Weixin Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that the change in export scale is the most influential factor affecting the embodied carbon of China's export trade, followed by carbon emission intensity, and the least impact is from changes in the export structure. The expansion of export scale has caused the growth of trade embodied carbon, while the decline in carbon intensity would slow down the growth of trade embodied carbon.

Media coverage, Environment Protection Law and environmental research and development: evidence from the Chinese-listed firms

Wunhong Su et al.

Summary: The study reveals that both media coverage and the Environmental Protection Law have a significant positive impact on firms' environmental R&D, especially for firms with low internal control quality and in high-competition industry. Environmental R&D fully mediates the relationship between media coverage and environmental technology innovation.

How can public participation improve environmental governance in China? A policy simulation approach with multi-player evolutionary game

Zhaopeng Chu et al.

Summary: This study explores how public participation can help reshape environmental governance in China. A new mechanism design for public participation is proposed, and simulations show that public participation can reduce governance costs, improve policy flexibility, and alleviate the supervision burden of local governments.

How to stimulate Chinese energy companies to comply with emission regulations? Evidence from four-party evolutionary game analysis

Weixin Yang et al.

Summary: Based on the current organization of China's energy regulatory system, a four-party evolutionary game model was established to analyze the strategies and behavior evolution of each party. The study found that public supervision and whistleblowing can reduce the cost of inspection for central energy regulatory agencies, and there is a significant positive correlation between energy supervision, penalty cost, and long-term social welfare.

A penalty-reward system for pro-environmental project execution

Avinash Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: An evolutionary game was developed in this paper to simulate interactions among key stakeholders involved in monitoring and controlling the environmental impact of projects. Problems in sustaining desired behavior were identified through system dynamics simulation of the game, leading to the proposal of a penalty-reward system to ensure pro-environmental project execution with minimal monitoring from senior management.

Explaining Public Participation in Environmental Governance in China

Neil Munro

Summary: This article uses nationwide survey data to analyze who participates in environmental governance in China and why. It finds that urban residents, the more educated, higher income and higher social status individuals are more likely to participate, while women, the elderly, rural residents and migrants are less likely. Participation is influenced by attention to conservation issues, perceived effectiveness of local environmental governance, knowledge of environmental problems, media consumption, voting behavior, identification with a middle-class lifestyle and observance of Western holidays.

Evolutionary game of inland shipping pollution control under government co-supervision

Lang Xu et al.

Summary: This study discusses the evolutionary stable strategies in the context of environmental governance in inland shipping, and how to promote the development of the electric ship industry and the benign development of the inland river environmental governance system. The results show that the improvement of the initial probability and risk preference of the upstream and downstream governments and shipping companies is crucial.

Does the central environmental inspection effectively improve air pollution?-An empirical study of 290 prefecture-level cities in China

Wenwen Wang et al.

Summary: This study used Mechanism Design Theory and Principal-agent Theory to analyze the air quality improvement effect of China's central environmental inspection mechanism, utilizing Regression Discontinuity Design Model to evaluate its impact and discussing the sustainability of the mechanism. Results indicate that the central government can incentivize optimal effort levels from local governments through contract design, leading to immediate improvement in air quality. However, the sustainability of this effect requires further research.
