Nitrogen nutrition contributes to plant fertility by affecting meiosis initiation

Han Yang et al.

Summary: Nitrogen, an important plant nutrient, plays a crucial role in plant development and fertility. Under nitrogen starvation, the ETF beta protein is required for branched chain amino acid catabolism, promoting nitrogen reutilization and supporting the initiation of meiosis.

Evaluation of long-term phosphorus uptake by Schoenoplectus californicus and Phragmites australis plants in pilot-scale constructed wetlands

Valentina Carrillo et al.

Summary: The study evaluated long-term phosphorus retention efficiency in a pilot-scale constructed wetland system over nearly 8 years. Both Schoenoplectus californicus and Phragmites australis showed significant phosphorus removal efficiency, with factors such as phosphorus loading rate, hydraulic loading rate, and dissolved oxygen being correlated with long-term retention. Plant uptake of phosphorus increased with operational years, with warmer seasons showing higher efficiency in phosphorus uptake.

Plant growth and nutrient accumulation in Melaleuca quinquenervia and Cymbopogon citratus treating high strength sewage effluent in constructed wetland systems with biochar media

Margaret Greenway et al.

Summary: This study investigated the growth and nutrient accumulation in two plant species, melaleuca trees and lemongrass, in constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment. The results showed that these plants differed in their ability to tolerate high nutrient loads and accumulate nutrients. Additionally, it was found that the effluent nutrient loads provided sufficient nutrients for plant growth, and biochar amendments did not enhance growth or nutrient accumulation.

Efficiency and plant indication of nitrogen and phosphorus removal in constructed wetlands: A field-scale study in a frost-free area

Weifeng Ruan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficiency of wastewater treatment in 15 rural and urban constructed wetlands in Guangdong Province, China. Results showed that the average removal rates of TN, TP, COD, and TSS were 40.0%, 45.2%, 41.1%, and 71.7%, respectively, indicating that under suitable climate conditions for wetland plant growth and adaptation, CW systems have a good performance in wastewater treatment.
