Constraints from in-situ Rb-Sr dating on the timing of tectono-thermal events in the Umm Farwah shear zone and associated Cu-Au mineralisation in the Southern Arabian Shield, Saudi Arabia

Summary: Constraining the tectonic history and timing of major shear zone structures in the Arabian Shield is critical for better understanding the distribution of ore deposits. In this study, in-situ Rb-Sr dating was used to determine the age of the Umm Farwah Shear Zone and the timing of Mount Ablah mineralisations. Results indicate that the shear zone was initiated at around 651 Ma, with mineralisation occurring between 626 and 611 Ma, and greisen formation at 601 +/- 12 Ma. The study also identified two main groups of mineral phases, providing insights into the tectonic history and origin of ore deposits in the Arabian Shield.

The study reveals a direct link between cement emplacement and regional tectonic-thermal events, with various generations of dolomite showing different geological processes and timings of formation.

In situ U-Pb geochronology of Pre-Salt carbonates reveals links between diagenesis and regional tectonics

The results show that calcite recrystallization began in the Cretaceous during the onset of oceanic spreading in the South Atlantic, contrary to existing models. Dolomite formation, on the other hand, occurred during a time of enhanced tectono-magmatism in southeastern Brazil.

Two major events of illitization were identified throughout the Mt. Simon with varying ages attributed to mineralogy controlled by depositional changes and evolution of the greater basin.

Revisiting Glauconite Geochronology: Lessons Learned from In Situ Radiometric Dating of a Glauconite-Rich Cretaceous Shelfal Sequence
