Critical point and supercritical regime of MgO

T. F. J. Boegels et al.

Summary: The position of the critical point is crucial in determining the top of the liquid-vapor coexistence dome and plays a significant role in the study of high-energy shocks. In this research, the critical point of MgO, one of the most common materials, is computed using molecular dynamics simulations. The study provides insights into the behavior, structure, and chemical speciation of MgO in subcritical and supercritical regimes, as well as observations of liquid-gas separation in nucleating nanobubbles.

Genesis of a CO2-rich and H2O-depleted atmosphere from Earth's early global magma ocean

Natalia Solomatova et al.

Summary: The magma ocean served as a significant reservoir for Earth's primary volatiles, with carbon becoming devolatilized rapidly while hydrogen remained dissolved in the magma. The thick silicate-bearing atmosphere in the early stages also led to higher concentrations of carbon dioxide, prolonging Earth's cooling time.

Phase behaviours of superionic water at planetary conditions

Bingqing Cheng et al.

Summary: The study predicts the phase behavior of water inside ice giant planets using machine learning and free-energy methods, revealing that most water may be superionic. The researchers also overcome the difficulty of experimentally or theoretically probing the thermodynamic and transport properties of superionic water by utilizing new methods. They predict the stability of different superionic phases, phase boundaries, and successfully resolve the fractions of insulating ice, different superionic phases, and liquid water inside ice giants.
