Summary: A new family of AIE active and ESIPT featured compounds were synthesized using a facile approach. These compounds displayed weak fluorescence in solution state and strong multi-color luminescence in aggregated/solid state. The experimental results confirmed the existence of AIE behavior in the compounds, possibly due to the restriction of intramolecular rotation. Additionally, the compounds showed excellent antibacterial activity against selected bacterial strains.

Subcomponent self-assembly of circular helical Dy6(L)6 and bipyramid Dy12 (L)8 architectures directed via second-order template effects

Xiao-Lei Li et al.

Summary: In situ metal-templated (hydrazone) condensation of 4,6-dihydrazino-pyrimidine, o-vanillin, and dysprosium ions resulted in the formation of discrete hexa- or dodecanuclear metallosupramolecular Dy-6(L)(6) or Dy-12(L)(8) aggregates. The structures exhibited unique circular helical or tetragonal bipyramid architectures, and the coordination mode of the bis(hydrazone) ligand L varied depending on the complex. The formation of the aggregates could be controlled by adjusting the reaction conditions. Dy-6(L)(6) showed a significant spin-relaxation energy barrier of 435 K, making it a promising candidate for lanthanide single-molecular magnets.

A color-tunable single molecule white light emitter with high luminescence efficiency and ultra-long room temperature phosphorescence

Xiao Ma et al.

Summary: Developing organic single molecule white light emitters with high luminescence efficiency, ultra-long phosphorescence, and excitation-dependent color-tunable emission is a challenging yet intriguing topic. In this study, three simple terpyridine-based derivatives were found to exhibit multiple emissions and color-tunable emissions, with P3 showing a novel combination of bright white light with high quantum yield, ultra-long phosphorescence, and ED color-tunable emission. The integration of monomer, excimer, and intermolecular charge transfer triple-mode emissions in the crystalline state of P3 contributes to its unique emission characteristics, providing a rational strategy for the design of SMWLE and ED color-tunable emission materials. These multifunctional materials have great potential for applications in displays, anti-counterfeiting, and beyond.
