Use of oral polio vaccine and the incidence of COVID-19 in the world

Farrokh Habibzadeh et al.

Summary: Using oral polio vaccine (OPV) may be associated with a lower incidence of COVID-19 compared to using inactivated polio vaccine (IPV). This suggests that OPV may prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection at the individual level or slow down transmission at the community level.

Breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 Infections, Hospitalizations, and Mortality in Vaccinated Patients With Cancer in the US Between December 2020 and November 2021

William Wang et al.

Summary: This study examined the risk of breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infections, hospitalizations, and mortality in vaccinated patients with cancer in the US. The results showed significantly increased risks for breakthrough infection in vaccinated cancer patients, especially those undergoing active cancer care, with marked heterogeneity among specific cancer types. Breakthrough infections in cancer patients were associated with significant and substantial risks for hospitalizations and mortality.

Systemic lupus erythematosus following human papillomavirus vaccination: A case-based review

Nan He et al.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease with multiple pathogenic factors. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common contributor to the onset and aggravation of SLE. HPV vaccination can potentially trigger SLE, especially in patients with personal or family history of autoimmune diseases.

Association of Influenza Vaccination With SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Associated Hospitalization and Mortality Among Patients Aged 66 Years or Older

Seyed M. Hosseini-Moghaddam et al.

Summary: This cohort study suggests that undergoing a periodic health examination (PHE) may modify the association between influenza vaccination and SARS-CoV-2-associated outcomes in individuals aged 66 years or older. This provides evidence of the healthy vaccinee bias that may affect vaccine effectiveness studies.

Association between human papillomavirus infection and sudden sensorineural hearing loss: A nationwide population-based cohort study

Thomas Yen-Ting Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and the risk of developing sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). The study found that HPV infection is associated with a higher risk of subsequent SSNHL in the Taiwanese population, and this association is particularly strong in patients with cerebrovascular disease.

The single-cell epigenomic and transcriptional landscape of immunity to influenza vaccination

Florian Wimmers et al.

Summary: The study found that vaccination leads to persistent reshaping of the immune system epigenome, with different vaccines producing different effects. Some vaccines showed persistently decreased chromatin accessibility in monocytes and myeloid dendritic cells, while others stimulated increased expression of certain genes.

Protective heterologous T cell immunity in COVID-19 induced by the trivalent MMR and Tdap vaccine antigens

Vijayashree Mysore et al.

Summary: The study found that individuals previously vaccinated with MMR or Tdap vaccines had reduced severity of COVID-19. There was a high correlation between T cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 and MMR, Tdap proteins in COVID-19 convalescent and vaccinated individuals, indicating that cross-reactive T cells may provide protection through reactivation.
