Determining the optimal magnetic resonance imaging sequences for the efficient diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders

Minjun Dong et al.

Summary: By comparing and analyzing nine MRI sequences of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), three optimal sequences for rapid and efficient diagnosis of TMJ disorders were determined: oblique sagittal proton density-weighted imaging (OSag PDWI), oblique coronal T2-weighted imaging with closed mouth (OCor T2WI), and oblique sagittal T2-weighted imaging with opened mouth (OSag T2WI). The study findings suggest that these sequences demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy for patients with anterior disc displacement.
