Validation of coding algorithms for identifying people with viral hepatitis using claims data according to different standard references

Ming-Jen Sheu et al.

Summary: This study assessed the performance of coding algorithms for identifying HBV and HCV patients using claims data. The results showed that different reference standards and study periods led to different estimates of positive predictive value (PPV) and sensitivity (Sen). The optimal coding algorithm for identifying HBV and HCV patients was recommended based on the highest PPV and Sen.

Changes in Epidemiology of Acetaminophen Overdoses in an Urban County Hospital After 20 Years

Apple Long et al.

Summary: Acetaminophen (APAP) toxicity is the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. This study found an increase in the number of hospitalized patients with APAP toxicity through a laboratory database search of serum APAP levels in a specific hospital, but overall outcomes have improved.
