Metformin versus insulin therapy for gestational diabetes: Effects on offspring anthropometrics and metabolism at the age of 9 years: A follow-up study of two open-label, randomized controlled trials

Elisa Paavilainen et al.

Summary: The offspring of mothers treated with metformin for gestational diabetes mellitus showed similar growth and glucose metabolism at age 9 compared to those treated with insulin, but had a more favorable lipid profile, including higher HDL cholesterol, lower LDL cholesterol, and lower apolipoprotein B concentrations.

Stress, Inflammation and Metabolic Biomarkers Are Associated with Body Composition Measures in Lean, Overweight, and Obese Children and Adolescents

Eirini V. Christaki et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the associations between multiple indices of stress, inflammation, and metabolism with body composition parameters in children and adolescents. The study found that obesity was associated with stress, inflammation, and insulin resistance, while heart rate variability could be used as a screening tool for obesity-related health risks in this population.

Adiponectin, Leptin and Cardiovascular Disorders

Shangang Zhao et al.

Summary: The discovery of leptin and adiponectin established adipose tissue as an important endocrine organ in cardiovascular health. Normal levels of adiponectin and leptin are crucial for proper cardiovascular function, while both excess and insufficient levels may contribute to cardiovascular disorders. High levels of both adiponectin and leptin are a paradoxical factor in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases.

Progenies of gestational diabetes mellitus exhibit sex disparity in metabolism after respective therapies of insulin, glibenclamide, and metformin in dams during pregnancy

Yao Lu et al.

Summary: Insulin, glibenclamide, and metformin treatments in GDM mice during pregnancy have long-term persistent effects in male offspring, while female progenies show autonomous correction of dysregulated glucose-lipid metabolism.
