Change in the Activity of Genes of Transcription Factors TaNAC69, TaDREB1, and TabZIP60 in Bread Wheat Plants with Water Deficiency and Hypothermia

E. A. Zaikina et al.

Summary: Bread wheat is the most important food crop globally, but its productivity is negatively affected by stress factors such as drought and hypothermia. Transcription factors (TFs) belonging to NAC, DREB, and bZIP families play a crucial role in increasing plant resistance to stress. This study analyzed the changes in gene expression levels of TaNAC69, TaDREB1, and TabZIP60 in different varieties and breeding lines of bread wheat under drought and hypothermia. The results showed that the expression levels of these genes were correlated with stress resistance parameters, such as water content, proline, and malondialdehyde. Line L43466 exhibited the highest relative level of gene transcripts under stress conditions, suggesting its potential for further selection.

Transient Expression Analysis of Agave sisalana Heat Shock Protein Gene (AsHSP70) in Model Species (Nicotiana benthamiana) under Heat Stress

A. A. Batcho et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether overexpression of the AsHSP70 gene from Agave sisalana could improve heat stress tolerance in plants. The functional characterization of AsHSP70 revealed that it is expressed transiently in tobacco under heat stress conditions and significantly enhances membrane stability and relative water content in leaves, as well as increasing proline and sugar levels. These findings suggest that genetic transformation of AsHSP70 could be a potential strategy to enhance stress tolerance in agriculturally important crops.

Genome-Wide Analysis of the Trehalose-6-Phosphate Synthase Gene Family in Rose (Rosa chinensis) and Differential Expression under Heat Stress

Xiao-Ru Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of Trehalose and the Trehalose 6-phosphate synthase (TPS) gene family in response to heat stress in Rosa chinensis. It identifies nine TPS family members in the rose genome, and shows that the trehalose content in the stems and roots of R. chinensis significantly increases under heat stress. The study also reveals that segmental duplications contribute to the expansion of the RcTPS gene family, and identifies RcTPS7a and RcTPS7b as promising candidates for further functional studies related to heat tolerance in R. chinensis.

Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Metabolism under Adverse Environmental Conditions: a Review

Pedro Garcia-Caparros et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are natural byproducts of oxygen metabolism, primarily generated in cell compartments such as the apoplast, mitochondria, chloroplasts, and peroxisomes. Cells have a balance between ROS generation and elimination, but this balance can be disrupted by various stress factors, leading to cellular damage. The antioxidant defense system in cells, composed of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, works together to scavenge ROS and plays a crucial role in plant immunity, growth, and development.
