Accuracy of pulse pressure variations for fluid responsiveness prediction in mechanically ventilated patients with biphasic positive airway pressure mode

Benoit Bataille et al.

Summary: In critically ill septic patients, PPV is an accurate method for predicting fluid responsiveness, but there exists an unreliable gray zone between 5% and 15%.

Pulse Wave Analysis to Estimate Cardiac Output

Karim Kouz et al.

Summary: Pulse wave analysis can estimate cardiac output continuously and in real time. The methods of pulse wave analysis can be categorized based on invasiveness, calibration, and calibration methods.

Summary: Most patients did not tolerate LiDCO CNAP monitoring for 12 hours, continuous monitoring unmasked episodes of hypotension often overlooked, and a proportion of hypotensive episodes may be due to vasodilation rather than hypovolaemia.

Summary: Pulse wave analysis allows estimation of cardiac output based on continuous analysis of arterial blood pressure waveform. Different algorithms and monitoring systems are available based on the complexity of signals and calibration methods used.

A novel art of continuous noninvasive blood pressure measurement

Juergen Fortin et al.

Summary: The continuous noninvasive blood pressure measurement system CNAP2GO presents a potential breakthrough in patient monitoring, directly measuring blood pressure using volume control technique for integration in small wearable sensors. CNAP2GO demonstrated excellent blood pressure measurement performance during surgeries, with the capability to derive cardiac output and other hemodynamic variables. The system can self-calibrate and be miniaturized for wearable use, offering significant promise for blood pressure monitoring in clinical settings.

Non-invasive assessment of fluid responsiveness to guide fluid therapy in patients with sepsis in the emergency department: a prospective cohort study

Nienke K. Koopmans et al.

Summary: This study found that in patients with sepsis without shock, three out of four patients do not demonstrate a clinically relevant increase in CI after a standardised fluid challenge. Non-invasive cardiac output monitoring combined with a PLR test has the potential to identify patients who might benefit from fluid resuscitation and contribute to a better tailored treatment for these patients.
