Determination of lentiviral titer by surface enhanced Raman scattering

Courtney J. Morder et al.

Summary: This study explores the feasibility of using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for rapid determination of lentiviral titer. Two different lentiviruses were analyzed using SERS, and it was found that the SERS response could detect the presence of the GFP gene in the viral vector. Chemometric analysis identified a component in the observed SERS spectra that correlated with the concentration of GFP-containing virus particles. The viral titer determined by SERS agreed well with expression of the GFP in infected cells.

Application of Plasma-Printed Paper-Based SERS Substrate for Cocaine Detection

Rhiannon Alder et al.

Summary: Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technology is a promising method for on-site screening of illicit drugs, with the development of an atmospheric-pressure plasma-assisted chemical deposition process resulting in a lower cost SERS strip with higher detection sensitivity for drugs such as cocaine. The plasma-printed substrate demonstrated a detection limit as low as 1 ng/mL for cocaine, showing potential for cost-effective and reliable drug detection applications.

Summary: Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy is a promising method for highly sensitive detection of organic and bioorganic objects, but its practical use is hindered by limitations such as reproducibility, versatility, and commercially available substrates. By utilizing substrates composed of noble metals nanoparticles and porous silicon, these limitations can be overcome to achieve better performance and integration in silicon chips.
