A new understanding of the effect of Cr on the corrosion resistance evolution of weathering steel based on big data technology

Xiaojia Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of Cr element on the corrosion resistance of weathering steel using corrosion big data technology. The findings suggest that the effect of Cr on corrosion process is dynamic and influenced by environmental factors and chemical reactions in the rust layer. Cr element has both beneficial and detrimental effects on the corrosion resistance of weathering steel.

New insights into the mechanism of localised corrosion induced by TiN-containing inclusions in high strength low alloy steel

Chao Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of localized corrosion triggered by complex inclusions in high strength low alloy steel. The role of the TiN portion of the inclusion in the corrosion process was examined. The results showed that localized corrosion was mainly induced by inclusions and triggered by dissolution of adjacent distorted matrix.

Tellurium Behavior in the Containment Sump: Dissolution, Redox, and Radiolysis Effects

Anna-Elina Pasi et al.

Summary: The study found that radiolysis products have a significant impact on tellurium chemistry under different conditions, with redox reactions affecting tellurium solubility. The current information used to assess the tellurium source term needs to be reevaluated for severe accident management and code validation purposes.

Towards a better understanding of localised corrosion induced by typical non-metallic inclusions in low-alloy steels

Chao Liu et al.

Summary: Detailed understanding of localised corrosion induced by inclusions in low-alloy steel is critical, with research indicating that it is primarily a chemical corrosion process rather than an electrochemical process. Additionally, the correlation between Volta potential difference and preferential corrosion areas in different systems should be carefully considered.

Effects of rare earth modifying inclusions on the pitting corrosion of 13Cr4Ni martensitic stainless steel

Changgang Wang et al.

Summary: This study characterized the pitting corrosion behavior of martensitic stainless steel with and without rare earth modification in NaCl solution. The presence of different inclusions in BASE and REM steels affected the pitting resistance, with REM steel showing both increased susceptibility to pitting nucleation and improved repassivation. The concentration of rare earth elements in the steel matrix influenced the number and size of inclusions, ultimately affecting the overall pitting corrosion resistance.

Influence of grain refinement on the corrosion behavior of metallic materials: A review

Pan-jun Wang et al.

Summary: Grain refinement can enhance mechanical properties but may not always improve corrosion resistance; there is still no consensus on how grain size affects corrosion behavior; microstructural changes resulting from grain refinement have a significant impact on corrosion behavior.
