Effect of Zn-Coating Process on Liquid Metal Embrittlement of TRIP Steel

Doyub Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructural evolution of TRIP steel sheets prepared by different coating processes and their sensitivity to liquid metal embrittlement (LME). The results showed that the coating process influenced the Fe-Zn reaction, which controlled the contact between the steel substrate and liquid Zn alloy at high temperatures. The electro-galvanized TRIP steel exhibited the highest resistance to LME, while the continuously galvanized steel was the most susceptible.

Temperature Dependency of Hydrogen Embrittlement in Thermally H-precharged STS 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel

Hanna Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement of STS 304 austenitic stainless steel was investigated. The results showed that the resistance decreased with decreasing temperature and disappeared below -150 degrees C. The occurrence of hydrogen embrittlement at temperatures from 25 to -50 degrees C was attributed to strain-induced martensitic transformation and hydrogen diffusion into stress-concentrated regions.

Effects of Al-Si coating structures on bendability and resistance to hydrogen embrittlement in 1.5-GPa-grade hot-press-forming steel

Jisung Yoo et al.

Summary: In this study, the Al-Si coating structures were modified to improve the hydrogen emission and enhance the bendability of hot-press-forming (HPF) steels. The results showed that immersion in an Al-10%Si bath and subsequent HPF process produced a 33 μm-thick multiple coating structure, consisting of Fe2Al5, FeAl, and ferrite layers, while the reduced Al-Si adhesion and increased time and temperature produced a 30 μm-thick body-centered-cubic (BCC)-based coating structure with FeAl and ferrite layers. The BCC-based crystal structure, reduced Al content in the FeAl layer, and coarsened ferrite grains effectively enhanced hydrogen diffusivity and suppressed hydrogen-induced degradation, while the softened FeAl and thick ferrite layers improved the bendability of the steel.

Study on hydrogen embrittlement and reversibility of hot-stamped aluminized 22MnB5 steel

Yi Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hydrogen embrittlement behavior of ultrahigh strength hot-stamped aluminized 22MnB5 steel. The research found that the charging current density influenced the fracture mechanism, with low current density leading to quasi-cleavage fracture and high current density inhibiting hydrogen-induced cracking and promoting the reversibility of hydrogen embrittlement.

Effect of Pre-Straining on High Cycle Fatigue and Fatigue Crack Propagation Behaviors of Precipitation Hardened Steel

Sumin Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the high cycle fatigue (HCF) and fatigue crack propagation (FCP) behaviors of precipitation hardened (PH) high strength steel with different pre-straining levels. The research found that regardless of pre-straining level, fatigue cracks were typically initiated at surface pits formed during pickling. Pre-straining had a limited effect on HCF resistance of PH steel, but FCP rates increased with higher levels of pre-straining in low and intermediate K regimes.

Improving the bending toughness of Al-Si coated press-hardened steel by tailoring coating thickness

Z. Wang et al.

Summary: During the hot stamping process of Al-Si coated press-hardened steel, the ferrite layer formed does not effectively prevent brittle cracks from propagating, leading to decreased bendability of the steel. Thinner Al-Si coating reduces coating cracks and SIF at the crack tip, improving bendability and lowering material cost.

Changkyu Kim et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the enhanced corrosion performance of Al-Si-Mg coated 22MnB5 boron steel after hot-dip-aluminizing and hot-press-forming processes. Structural changes in the coating, including a more compact surface with Mg segregation and a thicker crack-free layer, contribute to higher polarization resistance and improved anti-corrosion performance, making Al-Si-Mg coating a potential alternative for hot-press-forming steel.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of coating and baking treatments on the bending angles of HPF steels, and classified the bending procedures into four stages based on direct observations of cracking processes. A critical angle was defined as the minimum bending angle required for initiating shear-crack propagation from the V-crack tip, showing a relationship between bending behavior and fracture mechanics concept.
