Effect of Mn Content on the Passivation and Corrosion of Al0.3Cr0.5Fe2MnxMo0.15Ni1.5Ti0.3 Compositionally Complex Face-Centered Cubic Alloys

S. B. Inman et al.

Summary: In this study, compositionally complex alloys were synthesized and annealed to form two-phase alloys. The global corrosion resistance was evaluated and it was found that the alloys had optimized corrosion resistance at a Mn concentration of 5.0 at%. The improvement in corrosion resistance was attributed to the homogeneous distribution of passivating elements and the stability of the passive films.

Corrosion behavior and mechanism of dual phase Fe1.125Ni1.06CrAl high entropy alloy

Puchang Cui et al.

Summary: This study investigates the corrosion behavior and mechanism of the as-cast dual phase Fe1.125Ni1.06CrAl high entropy alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The alloy displays a spinodal decomposition microstructure and high hardness, showing distinguished corrosion resistance. Chloride anions are found to be easily adsorbed and attacked on the alloy surface, accelerating localized pitting and micro-galvanic corrosion processes.

Effects of Al and Ti co-doping on the strength-ductility- corrosion resistance of CoCrFeNi-AlTi high-entropy alloys

Wu Qi et al.

Summary: In this study, the synergistic effects of Al and Ti on CoCrFeNi(Al0.3Ti0.2)(x) high-entropy alloys were investigated. It was found that the addition of Al and Ti significantly improved the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the alloys, but excessive addition reduced the ductility. The precipitation of strengthening phases was also found to affect the corrosion resistance of the alloys.

Thermodynamic Descriptors to Predict Oxide Formation in Aqueous Solutions

Lauren N. Walters et al.

Summary: This study introduces the maximum driving force (MDF) parameter as a descriptor for capturing the thermodynamic stability of aqueous surface scale formation. By calculating the maximum driving force, it can describe the aqueous corrosion trend of nickel thin films and account for subsurface oxidation behavior. This approach is important for understanding oxide formation on complex alloys.

Potential Dependent Mn Oxidation and Its Role in Passivation of Ni38Fe20Cr22Mn10Co10 Multi-Principal Element Alloy Using Multi-Element Resolved Atomic Emission Spectroelectrochemistry

Junsoo Han et al.

Summary: The study focuses on a non-equiatomic Ni38Fe20Cr22Mn10Co10 solid solution alloy, showing that Ni dissolves at all investigated potentials, Fe and Co are incorporated into oxides or hydroxides at low concentrations, and Cr and Mn are enriched at passive potentials. At low passivating potentials, Mn(II) dissolves and is incorporated into oxides containing large concentrations of Cr(III).
