Prevalence of contact allergy to corticosteroids in a Danish patient population

Sebastian Vigand Svendsen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of sensitization to budesonide, tixocortol-21-pivalate, and hydrocortisone-17-butyrate in a Danish patient population from 2006-2020. The results showed that the prevalence of corticosteroid sensitization was 2.7%, and age was the only risk factor. Among the corticosteroids tested, tixocortol-21-pivalate sensitization was significantly increased in women and had higher clinical relevance compared to men.

Delayed corticosteroid hypersensitivity: a clinical management proposal

S. Voltolini et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 14 patients with delayed reactions to corticosteroids, identifying three different patterns of reactions based on clinical history and test results. The allergy workup was found to be useful in differentiating patients sensitized to specific molecules from those with multiple sensitivities and in identifying the causative drugs. Intradermal and challenge tests were recommended to complete the diagnostic workup and guide patient management.

Patch testing of budesonide in Italy: The SIDAPA baseline series experience, 2018-2019

Luca Stingeni et al.

Summary: The prevalence of budesonide allergy in Italy is low and decreasing, with a significant positive association with male gender, atopic dermatitis, and age >40 years, and a significant negative association with hand and face dermatitis. Budesonide is recommended to be maintained in the baseline series for its good ability to detect corticosteroid sensitization.
