The effect of the amount and particle size of the waste quartz powder on the adhesive properties of epoxy resin coatings

Agnieszka Chowaniec et al.

Summary: This research investigated the effect of quartz powders on the adhesive properties of epoxy resin coatings and found that waste quartz powder can be used as a filler in epoxy coatings without significantly deteriorating the adhesion of the coating, within certain particle size and weight percentage limits.

Colorful superhydrophobic concrete coating

Kun Xu et al.

Summary: The colorful and robust superhydrophobic concrete (CSC) coating has a water contact angle of 158 +/- 0.5 degrees and a sliding angle of 5 +/- 0.8 degrees. It is composed of cement, sand, water-based stone protector, and dyes for concrete coloring. Its high robustness comes from the high adhesive force between the coating and the substrate, the inherent high hardness of concrete itself, and self-similarity of inside micro-structures. The CSC coating also exhibits excellent chemical durability and weather resistance.

Concrete corrosion in a wastewater treatment plant - A comprehensive case study

Piotr Woyciechowski et al.

Summary: The study found that the protective epoxy coatings on the concrete elements of pre-treatment tanks in the wastewater treatment plant failed due to their high vapor permeability and lack of resistance to sulfuric acid, leading to rapid diffusion of sulfate ions into the concrete structure and subsequent delamination and destruction.

Preparation of submicron-/nano-carbon from heavy fuel oil ash and its corrosion resistance performance as composite epoxy coating

Shaik Inayath Basha et al.

Summary: By utilizing heavy fuel oil ash (HFOA) to produce submicron/nano-carbon through pyrolysis and ball milling, a low-cost and highly corrosion-resistant composite coating was developed. Electrochemical tests demonstrated that the developed composite coating has superior corrosion resistance, making it suitable for protecting mild steel.

Functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube/polyindole incorporated epoxy: An effective anti-corrosion coating material for mild steel

Saurav Ramesh Nayak et al.

Summary: The study aimed to enhance the anti-corrosion performance of epoxy resin by incorporating f-MWCNT/PIn nanocomposite. The 0.25 wt% f-MWCNT/PIn blended nanocomposite coating showed excellent anti-corrosion and barrier protection properties in electrochemical testing. Uniform dispersion of nanofiller and increased pathway of corrosive electrolytes make it an excellent coating material for anti-corrosion applications.

Thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy resin reinforced with modified iron oxide nanoparticles

Yasmine N. Baghdadi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the functionalization of Fe3O4 nanoparticles and their effects as fillers in epoxy resins for engineering applications. The mechanical properties and thermal stability of the nanocomposites were generally improved, with the pristine Fe3O4-based nanocomposites showing the most significant enhancement in tensile strength and fracture toughness. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed an increase in initial storage modulus with any of the treated nanoparticles, impacting the material's dissipation potential. Furthermore, the incorporation of any nanoparticles led to an enhancement in thermal and mechanical properties of the composites.
