Experimental and numerical study on interfacial thermal behaviour of CRTS II slab track under continuous high temperatures

Summary: This study investigates the interfacial thermal behavior of CRTS II slab track under high-temperature conditions using experiments and heat transfer models. The results show that there is a quadratic polynomial relationship between the stresses and internal temperature of the track slab. Furthermore, under continuous high temperature conditions, interface damage zones grow with an upward arching shape.

Summary: The construction of high-speed railways in mountainous regions is limited due to topography conditions. Therefore, this research aims to develop a new cant track model to simulate curved sections in highland areas. The construction methodology combines the strength of concrete slab panels and the stress distribution ability of asphalt concrete trackbed. The performance of the cant track system was analyzed using the Rail Load System, and the results confirmed its positive applicability.

Infrared thermography detection of delamination in bottom of concrete bridge decks

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of infrared thermography (IRT) in detecting subsurface delamination of bridge deck components not exposed to direct solar radiation. It was found that IRT can effectively detect such delaminations, with detectable thermal contrast development depending on ambient temperature changes and a suitable detection period between 8 am and 4 pm. Additionally, the study showed that the thermal contrast value increases with bridge deck thickness and delamination size.

Structural damage analysis of CRTS II slab track with various interface models under temperature combinations

Summary: This study developed six types of three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models to investigate the thermal behavior of cement asphalt mortar (CAM) layer and Tshaped joint under various temperature conditions in China Railway Track System type II slab ballastless track. The results showed that the cohesive zone model (CZM) and concrete damaged plasticity model (CDPM) were capable of simulating the interlaminar debonding and damage behavior development in CRTS II track under different temperature conditions. The increase of overall temperature and temperature gradient significantly affected the deformation and stress in CAM layer.

Study on the damage evolution of the joint and the arching deformation of CRTS-II ballastless slab track under complex temperature loading

Summary: This study investigates the damage initiation and evolution of the wide and narrow joint in the longitudinal CRTS-II track using a refined finite element model. The analysis shows that tensile damage causes initial cracks inside the narrow joint, and the increase of compressive damage leads to the final failure of the narrow joint concrete. Additionally, joint damage impacts the upper-arch mechanism on the track slab, with a linear increase in arch height as joint damage degree rises.
