Valorization of limestone powder as an additive for fly ash geopolymer cement under the effect of the simulated tidal zone and seawater attack

Alaa M. Rashad et al.

Summary: Choosing the right type of cement is crucial to limit deterioration in buildings exposed to marine environments. By partially replacing fly ash with limestone powder, the compressive strength of the cement can be enhanced and the degradation caused by seawater and tidal zones can be reduced.

Influence of seawater on alkali-activated slag concrete

Yubin Jun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of natural seawater as mixing water for alkali-activated slag concrete and reveals that samples exposed in seawater exhibit improved mechanical performance. The seawater-mixed alkali-activated slag samples produced additional reaction products, improving strength, and exhibited enhanced pore structure refinement after exposure to seawater. The positive results suggest seawater can be effectively used as mixing water for alkali-activated slag concrete.
