Inspection of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymers: 3D identification and quantification of components by X-ray CT

E. Dilonardo et al.

Summary: The reported research activity conducted a quantitatively 3D characterization of a CFRP composite with controlled porosity using micro X-ray CT, showing high correspondence with theoretical values. In contrast, results obtained through acid digestion analysis showed discrepancies with theoretical values. Therefore, the proposed NDT method demonstrated the feasibility of rapid and reliable inspection as a substitute for standard procedures.

Interlaminar shear behaviour and meso damage suppression mechanism of stitched composite under short beam shear using X-ray CT

Yujia He et al.

Summary: The study found that changes in stitching pattern and space influence the interlaminar shear performance and damage suppression mechanism of stitched composites. Reduction in stitching space enhances shear performance, while appropriate stitching patterns can increase the final load and suppress damage propagation.

Review of high-speed imaging with lab-based x-ray computed tomography

E. A. Zwanenburg et al.

Summary: X-ray computed tomography (CT) is widely used in scientific research with the need for faster lab-based CT in both industry and academia. This review highlights the steps that can be taken to optimize scan speed and discusses the challenges that still need to be overcome. The findings suggest that maximizing spot size and using a lower number of projections can significantly improve the speed without compromising image quality.
