A Comprehensive Review of Factors Affecting Dynamic Capillary Effect in Two-Phase Flow

Yin Chen et al.

Summary: The dynamic capillary effect, a common phenomenon in two-phase flow in porous media, has significant implications in various fields. This review analyzes the influence of factors such as properties of porous media and fluids, as well as certain external factors, on the dynamic capillary effect. The study concludes that the pore throat size of porous media has the greatest impact on the dynamic capillary effect.

Capillary Effects in Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composite Processing: A Review

Helena Teixido et al.

Summary: Capillarity plays a crucial role in composite manufacturing, but its effects are often overlooked due to their relatively low magnitude and a lack of monitoring techniques. With increasing demand for high performance composites and advancements in experimental techniques and numerical modeling methods, there is renewed interest in studying the role of capillary effects. This review summarizes the latest developments in identifying, measuring, and exploiting capillary effects in composite manufacturing, as well as approaches to control and enhance these effects.

3D actual microstructure-based modeling of non-isothermal infiltration behavior and void formation in liquid composite molding

Xiaokang Guo et al.

Summary: The complex interaction between viscous pressure and capillary pressure in the non-isothermal infiltration process affects the fluid invasion morphology and void formation mechanism. Through numerical simulations and image analysis, it was found that void trapping stability is higher in capillary fingering patterns and there is a critical capillary number to avoid local macroscopic void concentration. The non-isothermal effect influences the local pore-scale flow behavior, potentially leading to the disappearance of partial interface pinning phenomenon.
