Design, manufacture, and characterisation of hierarchical metamaterials for simultaneous ultra-broadband sound-absorbing and superior mechanical performance

Zhonggang Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a hierarchical metamaterial that can absorb both sound and mechanical energy by modulating its structural features. The material has an increasing absorption bandwidth and can absorb energy at different frequencies. The unique resonant responses of the material are demonstrated through analysis and experiments, and the enhancement mechanism is revealed. Compared to the original material, the hierarchical metamaterial shows significantly improved specific energy absorption.

Influence of the visco-Pasternak foundation parameters on the buckling behavior of a sandwich functional graded ceramic-metal plate in a hygrothermal environment

Mohamad W. Zaitoun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the buckling response of functionally graded sandwich plates on a viscoelastic foundation under hygrothermal conditions using higher-order shear deformation theory. An accurate solution is developed and a parametric study is conducted on the effect of damping coefficient, aspect ratio, moisture condition, power-law index, and temperature variation on the buckling temperature.

Additively manufactured dual-functional metamaterials with customisable mechanical and sound-absorbing properties

Zhendong Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a plate-reinforced dual-functional microlattice metamaterial that exhibits elastic isotropy, dual crushing stages, and ultra-broadband sound absorption. By controlling the structural local strength and modulating the parallel coupling and cascade resonance effects, various application requirements can be met.

On the vibrations of the Electrorheological sandwich disk with composite face sheets considering pre and post-yield regions

Fanlei Kong et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the vibration of a three-layered disk consisting of an ER core and two GPLRC face sheets. The shear strain and stress of the ER layer in pre-and post-yield state are obtained using FSDT and TSDT models. The HDQM method is employed to acquire the results, which are validated through comparison with other published studies. The investigation also explores the influence of GPLs distribution, foundation parameters, disk geometry, and GPLs weight fraction on the system's vibrational behavior.

Wave propagation analysis of a ceramic-metal functionally graded sandwich plate with different porosity distributions in a hygro-thermal environment

Saeed Tahir et al.

Summary: This paper presents the wave propagation analysis of porous functionally graded sandwich plates in a hygro-thermal environment using a simple four-unknown integral higher-order shear deformation theory. It investigates the effects of moisture and temperature on wave propagation by considering their role on materials' expansion, and discusses the impact of various factors through numerical results. The findings can serve as a benchmark for further studies on wave propagation in functionally graded plates.
