A complex Fourier series solution for buckling of VAT composite laminates with elastically restrained edges

Guojun Nie et al.

Summary: A new complex Fourier series solution is proposed to study the buckling performance of Variable Angle Tow (VAT) laminates, which can effectively improve their critical buckling load by adjusting the fiber orientation angles and the translational stiffness of the elastically restrained boundary.

Efficient and accurate semi-analytical simulation of nonlinear behavior of imperfect variable stiffness plates containing rectangular holes

S. A. M. Ghannadpour et al.

Summary: This article investigates the nonlinear and post-buckling behaviors of variable-stiffness plates with and without square and rectangular cutouts, under different boundary conditions. It examines the effects of the presence, size, shape, and location of the cutout on the nonlinear behavior of the plates subjected to uniaxial compressive loads. The study models the plate with cutout by dividing it into sub-plates and connecting them using a plate assembly technique. The results are validated through finite element analysis.

The use of curvilinear fibers for enhancement of progressive failure performance of perforated composite panels

Z. Z. Pan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the progressive failure performance of an open-hole variable stiffness composite (VSC) panel manufactured by the continuous tow shearing (CTS) technique. A finite element (FE) model based on the Puck failure criterion is developed, and the results show that the VSC panel has higher buckling load and ultimate strength compared to constant stiffness composite (CSC) counterparts. Additionally, the post-buckling stiffness of CSC panels decreases significantly, while the VSC panel maintains a high level of stiffness. It is also found that the VSC panel is notch-insensitive under the studied loading condition.

Three-dimensional buckling analysis of variable angle tow composite laminated plates

Kun Nie et al.

Summary: This paper presents three-dimensional solutions for the buckling of variable angle tow composite laminated plates using the 3Dp-FEM method. The accuracy of the method is confirmed by comparing the numerical results with those in the literature, indicating that these 3D results may serve as a benchmark for future studies.
