Persistent impact of amitriptyline on the behavior, brain neurotransmitter, and transcriptional profile of zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Xuchun Qiu et al.

Summary: Discontinuation of amitriptyline (AMI) has been shown to cause long-term withdrawal syndromes in mammals. However, this study focused on the persistent effects of short-term AMI exposure on teleosts. The results showed that AMI exposure led to persistent hypoactivity and abnormal schooling behavior in zebrafish. It also affected the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain and dysregulated certain pathways. These findings highlight the potential long-term adverse effects of AMI on teleosts.

Transcriptomic profiling and differential analysis revealed the neurodevelopmental toxicity mechanisms of zebrafish (Danio rerio) larvae in response to tetrabromobisphenol A bis(2-hydroxyethyl) ether (TBBPA-DHEE) exposure

Emmanuel Sunday Okeke et al.

Summary: TBBPA-DHEE exposure in zebrafish larvae caused developmental toxicity, apoptosis, and oxidative stress. Transcriptomic analysis revealed differential gene expression involved in development, immunity, and enzymatic activity. These findings are crucial for the assessment of environmental toxicity and risk assessment of TBBPA-DHEE.

Impacts of chronic exposure to sublethal diazepam on behavioral traits of female and male zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Kun Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic exposure to diazepam (DZP) led to decreased swimming velocity and locomotor activity in both female and male zebrafish, with females being more sensitive and developing tolerance to the hypoactive effect induced by DZP. DZP also exhibited sex-dependent effects on social interactions and courtship behaviors in fish, as well as on brain gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) levels.

Cadmium chloride-induced transgenerational neurotoxicity in zebrafish development

Jingjing Tian et al.

Summary: Cadmium is a significant environmental pollutant that can harm the ecological environment and organismal health, affecting behavior, neurotransmitter levels, and neuronal development in offspring. Exposure to cadmium chloride in sexually-mature zebrafish led to reduced swimming speed and distance in F1 offspring, disruption of neurotransmitter levels, and altered gene expression related to neuro-development and neurotransmitter metabolism, causing developmental neurotoxicity. These findings highlight the harm that cadmium chloride poses to aquatic ecosystems.

Acute exposure to N-Ethylpentylone induces developmental toxicity and dopaminergic receptor-regulated aberrances in zebrafish larvae

Enshan Fan et al.

Summary: The study on the toxicity of NEP in zebrafish revealed that it causes various malformations in early embryos and affects the transcriptional regulation of genes related to brain and heart development in late developmental stages. NEP treatment induces an anxiety-like phenotype in zebrafish larvae and has inhibitory effects on locomotion and heart rate, with dopaminergic receptors identified as downstream effectors of NEP administration.

Transcriptomic responses predict the toxic effect of parental co-exposure to dibutyl phthalate and diisobutyl phthalate on the early development of zebrafish offspring

Hui Chen et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of DBP and DiBP on early development of zebrafish offspring, showing that parental exposure to these chemicals can lead to increased hatchability and prevalence of malformations in F1 larvae. Transcriptomic analysis revealed different molecular mechanisms of parental co-exposure compared to exposure to individual chemicals.

Developmental co-exposure of TBBPA and titanium dioxide nanoparticle induced behavioral deficits in larval zebrafish

Jiangfei Chen et al.

Summary: The study examined the neurotoxicity of TBBPA/TiO2 NP mixtures on zebrafish and found that exposure to the mixtures led to changes in behavior, cell apoptosis, and oxidative stress. The findings suggest that TiO2 NP may act as carriers for increased accumulation of TBBPA, leading to heightened responses in zebrafish. This study highlights the importance of assessing toxicity using chemical mixtures.
