The Nanostructured lipid carrier gel of Oroxylin A reduced UV-induced skin oxidative stress damage

Shan Zhu et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress damage caused by sun exposure is a major cause of skin aging and skin cancer. Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) have been shown to improve drug permeability and stability in the skin. This study prepared NLC loaded with Oroxylin A (OA) and found that it had better therapeutic effects compared to OA solution in a cellular model of UVB radiation. Additionally, immobilizing OA-NLC in a hydrogel matrix protected the skin from damage after UV radiation.

Zinc oxide-induced changes to sunscreen ingredient efficacy and toxicity under UV irradiation

Aurora L. Ginzburg et al.

Summary: This study found that the photostability and toxicity of sunscreens depend on the mixture of chemicals present, and the addition of zinc oxide may lead to photodegradation and increased toxicity. Therefore, caution must be taken when formulating sunscreens containing both zinc oxide and small-molecule UV-filters.

Cerium oxide nanomaterial with dual antioxidative scavenging potential: Synthesis and characterization

Sushant Singh et al.

Summary: Nanoceria (CNPs) have shown the ability to act as regenerative ROS scavengers with potential SOD or CAT mimicry, influenced by the Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio. The presence of phosphate can reduce SOD mimetic activity, highlighting the importance of maintaining both SOD and catalase activity in a phosphate-rich environment. Characterization of CNPs in this study demonstrated good biocompatibility and efficient reduction of hydrogen peroxide under in-vitro conditions.

Effect of Fish Bone Bioactive Peptides on Oxidative, Inflammatory and Pigmentation Processes Triggered by UVB Irradiation in Skin Cells

Andreea Iosageanu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the photoprotective effect of fish bone bioactive peptides (FBBP) isolated from silver carp discarded tissue on skin cells exposed to UVB irradiation and stressing agents. These peptides show cytoprotective activity, reduce ROS production, inhibit lipid peroxidation, decrease proinflammatory cytokines secretion, and lower melanin production and tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner. The results suggest the potential use of FBBP as valuable natural ingredients in photoprotective cosmeceutical products.

A vital role of chitosan nanoparticles in improvisation the drought stress tolerance in Catharanthus roseus (L.) through biochemical and gene expression modulation

E. F. Ali et al.

Summary: This study is the first to demonstrate the use of chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) in alleviating drought stress of Catharanthus roseus by enhancing antioxidant potential and gene expression related to alkaloid biosynthesis. CSNPs increased proline accumulation and the activity of catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), reducing drought-induced oxidative stress and preserving membrane integrity. Additionally, CSNPs led to increased alkaloid accumulation and upregulated gene expression associated with alkaloid biosynthesis under drought stress.

Identification and antioxidant activity of bovine bone collagen-derived novel peptides prepared by recombinant collagenase from Bacillus cereus

Yihang Song et al.

Summary: In this study, a recombinant bacterial collagenase from Bacillus cereus was successfully applied to hydrolyze bovine bone collagen to produce collagen-soluble peptides with high antioxidant activity. The study optimized the processing conditions using response surface methodology to achieve excellent ABTS free radical scavenging activity while maintaining high DPPH free radical scavenging activity and reducing power. Additionally, five new antioxidant peptides were identified within the CPP, showing the potential of the recombinant collagenase for degrading collagen and the CPP for antioxidant and functional food applications.
