Structural peculiarities of lysozyme-graphene oxide adsorption complexes

Vitalii A. Bunyaev et al.

Summary: The study revealed that lysozyme directly adsorbs on graphene oxide by forming bonds with specific amino acid residues on the GO surface, leading to conformational changes. These changes, while not significant, increase the availability of active sites on the enzyme for binding with substrates after desorption.

Oxidation state of graphene oxide nanosheets drives their interaction with proteins: A case of bovine serum albumin

Neha S. Ekal et al.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between bovine serum albumin (BSA) and oxidized graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets was explored. The extent of sheet oxidation and the availability of pure graphitic domains were found to play important roles in regulating the interactions. Additionally, the adsorption of proteins as colloidal aggregates was shown to improve the biosafety of the nanosheets.

Effects of preparation temperature on production of graphene oxide by novel chemical processing

Rashad Al-Gaashani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of preparation temperature on the synthesis of high quality graphene oxide (GO) by a chemical oxidation method. It was found that the purity of GO increased with higher preparation temperatures. Based on atomistic models developed according to the stoichiometric ratio of the functional groups found by XPS, it was shown that GO prepared at higher temperatures had more holes in the sheets, which was supported by experimental images.

Adsorption of P103 Nanoaggregates on Graphene Oxide Nanosheets: Role of Electrostatic Forces in Improving Nanosheet Dispersion

Rahul Patil et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of cationic surfactant DTAB to induce positive charge on P103 micelles for enhanced adsorption ability on graphene oxide sheets. The incorporation of DTAB resulted in increased potential and mixed micelle formation, ultimately leading to superior adsorption of mixed micelles on the GO sheets. The findings suggest that at low DTAB concentrations, small-sized building blocks formed, while at high DTAB concentrations, micelles dissociated into DTAB-rich unimers and P103-rich loose aggregates, impacting the aggregation behavior of the sheets in the solvent.

The inhibitory role of clioquinol in the fibrillation of hen egg white lysozyme

Baoliang Ma et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that clioquinol inhibits fibril formation of HEWL, with the inhibitory effects depending on the concentration of clioquinol. Fluorescence spectra showed that clioquinol induced conformational changes in HEWL, altering its tertiary structure and inhibiting hydrophobic exposure.
