Pb(II)-mediated precipitate transformation promotes Cr(VI) immobilization by biogenic hydroxyapatite

Sicong Lei et al.

Summary: The study investigates the mechanism of Pb(II)-mediated precipitation transformation to enhance the removal of Cr(VI) oxyanion on biogenic hydroxyapatite (BHAp). The process is time-dependent, involving rapid crystal precipitation in the initial stages and subsequent accumulation of precipitates over several hours. This method provides a potential approach for the successive removal of Pb(II) and Cr(VI).

Cotransport of nano-hydroxyapatite and different Cd(II) forms influenced by fulvic acid and montmorillonite colloids

Mengmeng Wu et al.

Summary: The co-existence of organic fulvic acid (FA) and inorganic montmorillonite colloid (MONT) can enhance the transportation of nHAP and Cd(II) by improving their stability and electrostatic repulsion with sand particles. The amount of adsorbed species and transport behavior of Cd(II) is also affected by the co-existence of FA or MONT.

'Anionic surfactant-assisted the transport of carbon dots through saturated soil and its variation with aqueous chemistry

Jiuyan Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of anionic surfactants on the transport of carbon dots nanoparticles in soil. The presence of the surfactant enhances the mobility of the nanoparticles under certain conditions, but it suppresses their mobility in the presence of divalent metal cations. Additionally, the effects of the surfactant on nanoparticle mobility decrease with increasing solution pH.

Modeling the Transport of Aggregating Nanoparticles in Porous Media

Vasileios E. Katzourakis et al.

Summary: A novel mathematical model was developed to describe the transport of nanoparticles in water-saturated, homogeneous porous media with uniform flow, taking into account their migration, aggregation, and attachment to solid matrices. The model simulations showed significant differences in nanoparticle transport compared to conventional biocolloids, with aggregation impacting attachment and breakthrough differently based on particle size. Useful conclusions were drawn regarding the implications of neglecting aggregation, particle-size dependent dispersivity, and nanoparticle surface charges on results.

Fractional-derivative model simulations of reach-scale uptake and transport dynamics of natural fluorescent dissolved organic matter in a temperate forested stream in southeastern US

Song Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the uptake and transport dynamics of FDOM in a forested coastal plain stream through reach-scale field experiments and stochastic modeling, revealing that the transport of FDOM is regulated more by physical retention and/or biogeochemical recycling. The tempered fractional advection-dispersion-reaction model (TFADRM) proposed in the study provided a more reasonable estimate of FDOM spiraling metrics and transport dynamics at the reach scale compared to conventionally used approaches.

Huawei Wang et al.

Summary: The study shows that biogenic hydroxyapatite (HAP) recycled from chicken waste can effectively remove Pb(II) from wastewater, achieving over 99% removal efficiency under specific operational conditions. Additionally, the presence of coexisting divalent ions has no significant impact on Pb(II) removal.

Transport of nanoparticles in porous media and its effects on the co-existing pollutants

Xin Ling et al.

Summary: Nanomaterials are widely used due to their superior properties, but their release and transport in the environment pose risks to aquatic ecosystems. Studies have shown that the transport of NPs in porous media is influenced by various factors, including NP characteristics, porous media properties, and water flow. Further research is needed to explore the transport and interaction of NPs in natural porous media, as well as the coupling mechanisms in real environmental conditions.

Summary: The study tested a new CMC-CAP technology for immobilization of Pb in soil and found it effective in long-term stability under field conditions, meeting Chinese regulatory limits. CMC-CAP served as a long-term sink for leachable Pb in soil and a pH buffer, reducing the soluble risk of lead.
