Toward the formulation of bio-cosmetic nanoemulsions: from plant-derived to microbial-derived ingredients

Summary: Consumers of face-care cosmetics are increasingly interested in skin-care products that promote both health and wellness. This has led cosmetic manufacturers to gradually replace synthetic ingredients with natural alternatives. The nanoemulsion system is considered an efficient carrier for bioactive ingredients in cosmetics. This review discusses various aspects of nanoemulsion systems, such as their formulation methods and testing methods. The transition towards sustainable green cosmetics is highlighted with examples of ingredients derived from plants, animals, and microbes. The search for a promising bio-emulsifier, specifically surfactin from Bacillus Subtilis, is also explored. The review concludes by proposing a holistic approach for formulating microbial cosmetics using exclusively microbial-derived ingredients.

Formulation process, physical stability and herbicidal activities of Cymbopogon nardus essential oil-based nanoemulsion

Surfactant Adsorption to Different Fluid Interfaces
