Trigeminal Neuralgia Secondary to Meningiomas and Vestibular Schwannoma Is Improved after Stereotactic Radiosurgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Iulia Peciu-Florianu et al.

Summary: Trigeminal neuralgia secondary to tumors, such as meningiomas and vestibular schwannomas, can be effectively treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with favorable clinical outcomes, although not as favorable as in idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. However, there is heterogeneity in reports and targeting approaches, with complications being higher when both the nerve and the tumor are targeted. Future clinical studies should focus on standard reporting of clinical outcomes and randomization of targeting methods.

Summary: SRS is an acceptable treatment option for selected patients with Koos grade 4 VSs. Risk group classification based on patient age and MCP compression is useful in decision-making for Koos grade 4 VSs.
