Marital Status and Sex-Based Differences in Outcomes After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

Paige Newell et al.

Summary: Studies have shown improved outcomes among married patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery. This study aimed to examine the impact of marital status and patient sex on outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVi). The findings revealed that married females had lower survival rates, married males had higher survival rates, and widowed status was associated with higher readmission rates.

Disparities in the characteristics and outcomes of patients hospitalized with acute decompensated heart failure admitted to internal medicine and cardiology departments: a single-centre, retrospective cohort study

Shiri Lea Maymon et al.

Summary: Efforts to decrease readmission rates after acute decompensated heart failure continue, with previous studies showing IMD admissions associated with higher readmission risk compared to CD. However, this contemporary cohort study of 8332 ADHF patients found older, sicker patients with higher ejection fraction were admitted to IMD, and 30-day readmission rates were lower in CD patients. Conflicting statistical models failed to definitively link admission department with 30-day readmission.
